you are running rich, could be a stuck choke or bad catalytic converter

  • RyuSaiKan:

Yep you are running rich( too much gas) could also be the O2 sensors are bad so the ECM is running in get home mode.

YOUR CAR IS RUNNING RICH, CHECK AIR FILTER FOR POSSIBLE CLOG. ALSO CHECK YOUR COMPUTER AT YOUR LOCAL AUTO ZONE FOR ANY IDLE AIR CONTROL, MASS AIR FLOW PROBLEMS. CHECK YOUR FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR OR INJECTORS LEAKING EXCESSIVE RAW GAS IN SYSTEM…

you got to much gas going into the combustion chamber, if its blue you got to much oil goin in, with gas prices the way they are id get it fixed ASAP

Unless it’s a diesel, you have incomplete combustion, your running “rich” and wasting gas. On top of that, your Cat is over working to clean it up and will soon malfunction. By now you should have a “Check Engine” light on. get a code reader, or have the code read and find out what needs repair.

Try to change your air filter first. Then check the choke if that doesn’t work. Possible; Bad tank of gas or bad spark plugs? You didn’t say if it was gas or diesel? Old diesels or dirty injectors will make diesel smoke. Also if not diesel and it is gas, try to; not accelerate, and see if the smoke comes out. If it does it all of the time, it is an air filter, choke, fuel or spark problem. I would think it was an air filter first especially if you haven’t changed it for 10000 miles or 8 months. If the car has sat for a week or more; watch for dead mice in the filter when you open it.
OK; What I would do anyway is; first add a new air filter then add a can of Gumout to the gas because it may be a carbon build up that shows up when you accelerate. The gumout will clean injectors or carburetor and help to bring the fuel system and combustion chamber back to normal.

If you are lucky, you might be running rich. However, you may be burning engine oil.
