Why do I get bad trips when I smoke marijuana?

I have never really enjoyed any of the times I have smoked marijuana. All the times I have smoked marijuana, I would get deep in my thoughts and I would get depressed. I become paranoid and lost.

Any tips? It seems that all my friends who smoke it can handle it except me.

I’ve noticed this problem occurs most frequently (almost exclusively) in people who have high intrapersonal intelligence according to Gardner’s multiple intelligence scale. It results from hyper-focusing on a thought, not active cause and effects going on around you.

While being high, the only thing that matters is what is immediately in your attention. That thing is so important and novel and amazing, be it a piece of music, an action, a thought, an emotion, a joke, a person, .etc.

This is freaking awesome — MOST of the time. However, if you find yourself lost in a depressing emotion, or a paranoid state of mind, you will truly spiral downward. You become engrossed in the current state of mind, and as you think more negative thoughts, your state of mind becomes more negative, and as it becomes more negative, you think more negative thoughts (and so on and so on). Sometimes this can lead to panic attacks and feelings of extreme depression.

The solution – THINK POSITIVE THOUGHTS. Now you can try reversing your thought patterns, or you can try distracting yourself with some music/humor/other external stimulation, or just move over to a different thought. Once you move over and just dont look back at the negativity all of a sudden your whole experience will become more more free and fun.

You’ll look back in hindsight at what you were just thinking about 30 seconds ago (which will seem like an hour) and laugh at how caught up you were in that idea that you just kept feeding.

In life, your thoughts change your perception, which in turn change your emotions and state of well being. This is extremely amplified when under the influence of psychoactives like marijuana.

So just realize it is truly all in your head..and you really have the power to change your outlook in one mental effort. You have so much power and control over how happy you are on weed that once you realize it you will feel like Hercules.

Just smile and make a conscious choice to say “Okay I want to feel ___” this is not serving me at all to think in this way.

Then do something you like to do. Draw if you like to draw, dance if you like to dance, do math if you like to do math.

    maybe you are just a sad stoner..next time watch a funny movie.. the evil bong is great. or listen to techno. it’ll really trip you out, but in a good way

    Happens to me too, partner. I can’t smoke it anymore…it’s just not enjoyable. Unfortunately there’s another drug out there that I do find enjoyable.

    It just doesn’t agree with some people.

    If you’re one of those, then it’s best to stop. There’s no point in making yourself feel unpleasant or unwell.

    If your mates are likely to give you a hard time for not smoking, then don’t tell them – just accept the joint as it gets passed round but don’t smoke it. They won’t notice – they’ll just want you to hurry up and pass it on. My friend used to do that years ago – would just keep on talking but hold the joint – it was only recently he admitted he didn’t like smoking but didn’t want to say anything.

    you sound exactly like me. in fact, i was an everyday smoker until a couple weeks ago, i decided to quit, because getting high just made me think of unpleasant thoughts. i used to have good highs, but it changed after a while, and i was just basically psychologically addicted. just quit and you will feel better

    There is studies now to prove that ‘weed’ can cause mental health problems and depression. I know people who smoke it and it has taken away their personality, they are now boring and all they want to do is smoke ‘weed’. I think you should give it up before it’s starts affecting you psychologically.

    Only tip that I can give and it would be from non experience is to leave that trash alone. Nothing like being straight and sober instead of all geek ed up.

    If it makes you feel bad, don’t do it. I don’t drink much any more because of something similar- I’m a mopey drunk, heh. But yeah, if you don’t enjoy it then don’t do it. Better to keep your brains intact rather than get depressed- I personally think the sadness is going to mess you up worse than the actual smoking is. It’s different for others I’m sure.

    If you have decent friends they would rather have you happy and not smoking.

    you’re too syked up about it. you expect too much. Just take it as it comes, don’t expect wild halucinations or anything they won’t come. To be honest, you’ll probably just feel a bit dizzy and tierd. It takes practice to apreciate the posititve effects

    Well the thing that i think it is, is your weed. If you buy from a dealer, ask him/her to give you a something different. If you grow your own, go get different seeds. All you have to do if find the weed that suits you some will make you paranoid, some will help you have a great trip.

    You need some positive vibes. Listen to trippy music, and dont be worried about stuff, Go somewhere to chill because I get paranoid if I am driving because cops or if I have to see my parents soon. be at the right place.
